Union Commissioner
A native of Sacramento, Doug dedicated 24 years to public safety as a professional firefighter with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and member of IAFF Local 522. During his distinguished career serving the citizens of his community, he sat on various committees focused on elevating operational excellence and first responder health and safety. Upon retirement in 2013, and seeking to be near family, Doug and Tabetha, his wife of 29 years, moved with their three children to Union, the community they are proud to call home. For the Bines, service is a lifelong calling. Their daughter, Megan, a Cleveland State alumna, serves in the U.S. Air Force, while their eldest son, Connor, returned to Union to build his career after serving in the U.S. Army. Their youngest, Daxton, excels as an athlete at Ryle High School, attends Ignite Institute, and serves in the Northern Kentucky Young Marines. Doug continues to serve his community as a city commissioner, a volunteer staff member for the Young Marines, as well as serving in his church in various capacities. Doug was recently honored with the Distinguished Citizen award from the U.S. Marine Corps League for his volunteer service. When not working or volunteering for the community, Doug and his family enjoy exploring our nation’s National Parks, spending time outdoors, and gathering with friends and neighbors.
As your commissioner, Doug is accessible to every Union resident and business person. Doug is always willing to meet and discuss issues and concerns with any of our residents.

As your commissioner, my goal is to secure intelligent, responsible growth in Union. This requires a strategic balance between preserving our city's distinct rural-suburban character and accommodating inevitable regional expansion. To maintain Union's high quality of life, civic planning must prioritize infrastructure development ensuring road networks, utility capacities, and top-tier schools scale ahead of growth. I am in favor of exploring the use of conservation easements and smart-growth boundaries to protect green spaces. By integrating pedestrian-friendly connectivity with controlled economic diversification, Union can successfully manage its population influx without sacrificing the small-town identity and community cohesion that define it. In addition, I will continue to advocate for increased representation for Union on the Boone County Planning Commission, thereby ensuring our voice is heard.

Union's financial security and economic integrity is anchored in its strict fiscal accountability and stewardship. As one of Northern Kentucky's fastest-growing cities, Union maintains its fiscal health by ensuring tax revenues are transparently and efficiently allocated to provide necessary services and desired public spaces. As your Commissioner, I have put the long-term interests of our citizens first and I strive to maintain open, responsible governance. I am committed to safeguarding your tax dollars with full transparency. Building on my leadership in securing a property tax rate decrease for 2025, and my opposition to salary increases for commissioners, I will continue to be a leader in fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency.
Serving
Serving my fellow citizens has been my life's work. Whether it was in my career as a firefighter, my community as commissioner, as a local youth organization leader, or in my church, I am dedicated to serving our city.
I also have great respect and appreciation for all of our currently serving military members, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters and first responders. Serving, and appreciating those that do, is a core value for myself and my family and the principle behind this campaign.
